You got to wonder how close we are to the big guy saying “O.K. that does it! Time to wipe clean the ol’ chalkboard” when you read articles like this or this.
Its interesting to note that the genitic term “chimera” is derived from an ancient mythological story of a monster who was composed of the parts of many different animals.
Its also interesting to note that the two apocolypses described in the bible…(the first one being noahs flood which wiped out the old world…and the second being the one prophesied in the book of revelation)...both are predicated with descriptions of…thats right…chimera’s. Makes sense though…Man has brought forth every imaginable sin on the planet except the one that science is attempting to orchestrate now. Scriptural Evidences:
The Flood
1 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with [a] man forever, for he is mortal [b] ; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.”4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.
5 The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. 7 So the LORD said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.

In the Hebrew Bible and several non-canonical Jewish and early Christian writings, nephilim (in Hebrew הנּפלים means the fallen [ones]) are a people created by the cross-breeding of the “sons of God” (beney ha’elohim, בני האלהים) and the “daughters of men”. (See Genesis 6:1.) The word nephilim is loosely translated as giants or titans in some Bibles, and is left untranslated in others.
And as for the apocolypse to come:
Revelation 9
1The fifth angel sounded his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. The star was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss. 2When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss. 3And out of the smoke locusts came down upon the earth and were given power like that of scorpions of the earth. 4They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5They were not given power to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 6During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them.
12The first woe is past; two other woes are yet to come.
Notice the description in bold…It sounds similar to the Mythological Chimera if you ask me…(notice the picture on the side of the article). Heres an animated image of one.
Just another sign of the apocolypse? hmm…maybe…
Packers: infinity plus 1; vikings: negative infinity plus 1.
Oh, how i do hate the vikings so.
No post-packer game depression this week as the boys in green and gold handily mopped up michael vick and the 1st place atlanta falcons by a final score of 33-25. The win still keeps a slight hope alive for a playoff birth with the packers playing 4 of their last 7 against division opponents. They’ll need to pretty much win out, but miracles do happen..and it wouldn’t be the first time the NFC North division teams got “Favred”...
I recommend this to those with cable. If by chance you grew up with mind numbing shows like “Saved by the Bell” or “Full House” (Hey I had 3 sisters, I had no control over the TV) ; You’ll find Nero Wolfe a breath of fresh air for your brain.
In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
You all think this blog format is good or should I go back to blogspot? Let me know what you think…
The previews to this looked cool but I had heard that the book ripped on the military and the gulf war in general, so I went and saw it tonight with a grain of salt. The story itself lacks in plot somewhat, but then that seems to be one of the points of the movie itself, which is posed more as a drifting spectacle that follws a marine’s experience from boot camp on through operation’s desert sheild and desert storm. The book on which the movie was based was written by a gulf war vet and is a loose adaptqtion of his experiences in the war. Unfortunately for him, those experiences appeared to have been anti-climactic. It appears almost as if he had to find ways to infuse drama into what seemed to be for the most pasrt, a mundane experience. Some of the scenes are borrowed and cliche’ and at times it was if lines were almost quoted verbatum from movies like full metal jacket. “This is my rifle…there are many ones like it but this one is mine….” other scenes appered to be rehashed stories from military lore or other military novels and films, but then there is good reason for these scenes making their way into war genre…their generally entertaining. So yes you will see the insulting witticisms of the drill seargent, the single inept soldier who the rest of the squad alienates, the teetering on the edge of insanity under the pressures of a war zone, the dear john letters, the coping with a world gone mad, etc etc., Not that these scenes don’t have their moments but they lacked originality. It was if the author was attempting to take his non-event of a war experience and make it into something dramatic and meaningful. Unfortuneatly often times it just comes out in the film as forced, or simply out of place. In fact the whole movie sums itself up with the premise of the non-event. Soldiers who are dieing to see combat, who go through months of waiting in the desert and struggling with boredome only to never fire one shot in a ground war that lasts 4 days. But don’t get me wrong, it’s not as though the film leaves you bored and disinterested, it does it’s best to deliver entertainment with little story to work with. The visual shots are excellent and sureal and the one thing the movie has going for it is that what it lacks in substance it gives you back with a feeling of what it was like to be there. Unfortunately “there” was just sitting in a destert while jets fought the war miles away. But I didn’t leave feeling my money was wasted. It was worth the price of admission. It’s not Platoon or the Big Red One but it had its moments. All in all I give it a B- and I would probably say if you got some free time its not a bad way to waste it, just expect to be entertained, not “wowed”.
